Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Worthing
Moss holds water. Your roof shouldn't.

Sussex coastal roofs grow moss like the Downs grow grass — the sea air keeps tiles damp, and the concrete tiles on most post-war homes are exactly the porous surface moss loves. It's not just cosmetic: moss mats hold water against the tile through every freeze, block valleys and gutters as it sheds, and give gulls something to dig through. A mossy north slope ages a roof faster than the weather does.
Our method is deliberately conservative: moss is removed by hand-scraping and soft brushing, ridge to gutter, then the roof is treated to slow regrowth — applied strictly to the manufacturer's instructions. What we will not do is point a pressure washer at your tiles. High-pressure water strips the surface off concrete tiles, drives water under the laps, and shortens the roof's life to make it briefly look new. Any firm offering to jet-wash your roof cheap is selling you a future roof repair.
Every roof gets looked at before it gets quoted — pitch, tile type, access, and how the moss is actually sitting. You get a fixed written price, the debris bagged and taken away (a mossy roof sheds a startling amount), gutters cleared as part of the job, and before-and-after photos from angles you'd need a drone or a ladder to see yourself.

Questions people ask us
Why won't you pressure wash the roof? Other firms do.
Because it damages concrete and clay tiles — strips the weathered surface, forces water under the laps, and can void what's left of any tile guarantee. Scrape-and-treat is slower and costs us more labour, which is why the cheap quotes skip it. Your roof outlives the difference.
How long does the moss stay away?
Scraping removes what's there; treatment slows regrowth substantially. On the coast, expect a well-treated roof to stay clean for several years rather than forever — sea air is relentless. We'll be straight with you about your roof's exposure.
Will you walk on my roof?
As little as possible, and never on tiles that won't take it. Most work happens from ladders, edge protection or access equipment appropriate to the job — that's priced into the quote, not discovered on the day.
Can you clean solar panels while you're up there?
Ask when you send the photo — panel washing with the right kit is often possible as an add-on, and we'll say honestly if your setup needs a specialist instead.
Is the treatment safe for pets and plants?
We use treatments to the manufacturer's label, protect what's below while we work, and tell you of any re-entry time before we start. Beds and lawns get sheeted where debris will fall.
