Drain & Gully Clearance in Worthing

The gutter's only half the journey.

Illustration of a worker lifting a cast-iron gully grate beside a downpipe, water swirling cleanly away

Every gutter we clean drains into a downpipe, and every downpipe ends in a gully or a surface-water drain — and that's where the second half of the blockages live. A cleared gutter feeding a blocked gully just moves the puddle to the bottom of the wall, where it soaks foundations and floods paths. We clear the whole rainwater journey: gutter, downpipe, gully, away.

Gully pots fill with exactly what the coast produces — moss off the roof, leaf litter, render grit, the odd tennis ball. We lift the grate, clear the pot and the trap by hand and rod, flush the run through, and flow-test it with real water before we call it done. Downpipes get rodded and flushed from both ends; leaf guards and balloon guards can be fitted while we're there so the same blockage doesn't rebook us next autumn.

Honesty about scope: we clear external rainwater and surface-water drainage — gullies, downpipes, channel drains, ACO runs. Foul drains, collapsed pipework and anything needing CCTV surveys or high-pressure jetting is specialist territory, and if that's what your symptoms point to we'll say so on the phone rather than charge a call-out to tell you in person.

Questions people ask us

Water pools at the bottom of my downpipe — gutter or drain?

Usually the gully below it, especially if the gutter overhead looks fine. Send a photo of the puddle and the pipe; it's normally obvious which end is guilty, and we'll quote for the right fix rather than both.

Do you unblock kitchen or bathroom drains?

No — foul drainage is a different trade with different kit. We handle rainwater and surface-water drainage: gullies, downpipes, channel drains. If it smells, you need a drainage plumber, and we'll say so for free.

Can you stop it blocking again?

Mostly, yes: gutter and downpipe guards, a sensible clearing schedule, and cutting back whatever's feeding the gully. We'll tell you what's actually causing yours — sometimes it's a £15 guard, sometimes it's next door's sycamore.

Is a regularly flooding gully ever serious?

It can be — repeated flooding with clear gullies suggests the pipe run beyond is silted or damaged, which is specialist CCTV territory. We'll tell you honestly when you've outgrown us; what you won't get is a guess dressed as a diagnosis.
